Over the last 13 years, I’ve made a lot of angel investments. For every single one of them, I’ve been passionate about the team and the sector. That’s even more true for my most recent investment into the NY Cosmos. I couldn’t be more excited that on March 14th, the NY Cosmos men’s team takes the pitch for its first home game of the season.
With the FIFA World Cup is coming to North America this year, the case for investing in soccer in the US has never been more clear. 17% of US soccer fans say they just started following soccer the last five years. Youth participation, media rights, and fan engagement are all accelerating. The NY Cosmos name carries history, legacy, and a brand that once helped put American soccer on the map and I’m excited for its rebirth as a USL League 1 team.
But what I’m even more passionate about is what’s coming in 2027: the launch of the Cosmos women’s team. The future of women’s sports is tremendous. The growth we’re seeing in women’s soccer, basketball, and beyond isn’t just inspiring, it’s one of the most compelling investment theses in sports today. Women athletes are building audiences in a very different way, breaking records, and reshaping what professional sports looks like. Being on the ground floor of a women’s program with the Cosmos brand behind it is a no-brainer for me.
There’s also a community story here that matters. The Cosmos are playing at the newly renovated Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson, New Jersey, a city with incredible energy, deep diversity, and a real need for investment. Having the Cosmos play in Paterson will strengthen the community and create opportunity.
Community. Club. Cosmos. If you’re in the tri-state area on March 14th, please come out and support the NY Cosmos at our home opener versus the Portland Hearts of Pine (tickets available here). Join me and witness the next chapter.
